어린 시절, 달이 우리를 따라온다고 믿었던 사촌과의 밤길. 서두르기보다 주변을 바라보는 순간의 의미를 담은 이야기.

어릴 적,
밤길을 걸을 때면 조금 긴장되면서도 신기하던 시절,
사촌과 함께 할머니 댁으로 가던 길이었습니다.
 
사촌은 후드를 푹 눌러쓰고,
얼굴의 절반을 가린 채 빠른 걸음을 옮기고 있었습니다.
호기심에 물었습니다.

“왜 이렇게 빨리 걸어?”
 
사촌은 눈을 크게 뜨고 대답했습니다.

“달이 나를 따라오잖아.”
 
저도 고개를 들어 하늘을 보았습니다.

정말로,
달은 하늘 위에 걸려 우리를 따라오는 것 같았습니다.
괜히 마음이 두근거려, 저도 발걸음을 재촉했습니다.
 
그날은 아무 말 없이 할머니 집에 도착했지만,
그 장면은 아직도 기억 속에 남아 있습니다.

 

지금도 달을 볼 때면, 그때를 떠올리며 약간의 향수를 느낍니다.
앞만 보고 달리기보다, 늘 곁에서 조용히 함께하던 것들을 바라보는 순간—
그것이야말로 잊지 말아야 할 여유 아닐까요?

The Night the Moon Followed Us
 

Back when I was a child,
walking at night felt a little tense,
yet oddly captivating.
 
I was on my way to my grandma’s house with my cousin.
She walked quickly,
her hood pulled low over her head,
hiding almost half her face.

Curious, I asked, “Why are you walking so fast?”
 
She looked at me with wide eyes and said,
“The moon is following me.”
 
I paused, tilted my head back, and saw it —
the moon hung above us,
steady and bright,
moving as if it was keeping pace with our steps.

I hurried to catch up with her,
and we said nothing more until we reached my grandma’s home.
 
Even now, whenever the full moon shines,
it brings back a sense of nostalgia for that moment.
 
It’s a reminder that life isn’t always about rushing ahead.
Sometimes, it’s about noticing the quiet,
steady things that have been beside us all along.
 
When we rush forward,
we often miss the quiet treasures walking right beside us.
