1월 1일, 사람들이 은근히 지키는 일상 속 새해 미신과 작은 의식들. 재미로, 기분 좋게 시작해보는 나만의 새해 루틴.

새해에 주머니에 돈을 넣는 새해 미신 중 하나

 

이런저런 새해 이야기들을 보다 보니,
오히려 사람들이 일상에서 은근히 지키는
작은 새해 미신들이 더 눈에 들어오기 시작했다.

 

최근에 잠깐 레딧 구경을 하다가 (고마워요, Reddit)
사람들이 새해에 정말 별의별 걸 다 한다는 걸 알게 됐다.
너무 굳게 믿어서라기보다는,
안 하면 왠지 찜찜해서 하는 느낌에 가깝다.

 

어떤 사람들은 자정이 될 때
주머니에 꼭 돈을 넣어 둔다고 한다.
그래야 한 해 내내 돈이 붙어 다닌다고.

 

또 어떤 사람들은
새해 넘어가는 시기에 빨래를 널지 않는다.
안 좋은 기운이 옷에 달라붙어서
그대로 1월까지 따라온다는 이유다.
(이건 진짜… 빨래 널다가 멈췄다 😱)

 

어떤 곳에서는 자정에
냄비랑 후라이팬을 나무주걱으로 두드린다.
액운을 쫓아내기 위해서라는데,
시끄럽고 정신없지만 묘하게 속은 시원할 것 같다.
(이웃분들께는 미리 사과… 😂)

 

그리고 익숙한 것들도 있다.
둥근 과일 먹기,
땡땡이 옷 입기,
동전처럼 둥글고 반복되는 것들.

 

논리는 늘 비슷하다.
둥근 건 풍요를 뜻하고,
소리는 보호를 의미하고,
물건은 마음을 담는 방식이다.

 

이걸 한다고 뭐가 보장되냐고 하면…
솔직히 그렇진 않다.

 

그래도
새해를 조금은 ‘의식적으로’ 시작하는 느낌은 좋다.

 

그래서 올해는 이렇게 해보려고 한다.

 

1️⃣ 주머니에 현금 넣어두기 👍
2️⃣ 땡땡이 무늬 흰 셔츠 입기
(없으면 그냥 동그라미 그리기 ^^)
3️⃣ 냄비랑 후라이팬 두드리기
(미안해요, 이웃분들)
4️⃣ 빈 여행 가방 들고 한 바퀴 돌기
(밖이 너무 추워서 그냥 집 안에서 😅)
5️⃣ 집안일 안 하기… ㅋㅋ

 

이번 새해 바스켓은
크리스마스 때보다 더 축제 같다 😂

Things People Do at New Year

 

땡땡이처럼 둥근 무늬는 새해 풍요를 상징한다.

 

After reading about New Year's customs around the world,

I began to notice more of the small New Year's superstitions that
people secretly observe in their daily lives.

 

I went down a small rabbit hole recently (thank you, Reddit),

and found out people do all sorts of things on New Year’s Day —

not because they believe too hard,

but because it feels wrong not to.

 

Some people make sure they have money in their pockets at midnight,

so wealth stays with them for the whole year.

 

Some people avoid hanging laundry to dry over the New Year,

because bad spirits might cling to the clothes and quietly follow you into January.

(That one made me pause mid-laundry 😱)

 

Others literally bang pots and pans with wooden spoons

at midnight to scare away bad luck.

Loud, chaotic, and honestly kind of satisfying.

(Though the neighbors might complain 😂)

 

Then there are the familiar ones: eating round fruits,

wearing polka dots, anything round, repetitive, coin-like.

 

The logic is always the same.

Round shapes mean abundance.

Noise means protection.

Objects mean intention.

 

Do I think any of this guarantees anything?

Not really.

 

But do I like the idea of starting the year intentionally?

Definitely.

 

So yes — January 1st, I'm going to...

 

1️⃣ Keep some cash in my pockets 👍

2️⃣ Wear a white shirt with polka dots (I’ll just draw circles ^^)

3️⃣ Bang pots and pans (sorry, neighbors)

4️⃣ Walk around with empty luggage (in my living room 😅)

5️⃣ Do nothing, no housework.....ㅋㅋ

 

My basket looks more festive this New Year than it did at Christmas 😂
