여행 짐 싸기는 처음에는 단순해 보이지만
여행 마지막 날이 되면 작은 퍼즐처럼 느껴진다.

여행 마지막 날 캐리어 짐 싸기에서 느낀 작은 생각.

여행은 항상 이렇게 시작한다. 캐리어는 아직 여유 있어 보인다.

여행을 시작할 때는 항상 같은 생각을 한다.
여행 짐 싸기는 단순해야 한다고.
필요한 것만 챙기고, 가볍게 움직이자고.
처음 캐리어를 열어 보면 꽤 여유 있어 보인다.
옷 몇 벌.
신발 한 켤레.
세면도구.
아직은 모든 게 질서 있어 보인다.
 
하지만 여행은 보통 그렇게 단순하게 끝나지 않는다.
여행 중간쯤 되면 물건이 하나둘 생긴다.
슈퍼마켓에서 산 간식.
작은 기념품.
그때는 필요해 보였던 어떤 물건.
 
처음 계획에는 없던 것들이다.
그래서 여행 짐 싸기는 처음에는 쉬워 보여도
캐리어 짐 싸기는 마지막 날이 되면 전혀 다른 일이 된다.
 
마지막 날이 되면 짐 싸기는 조금 다른 작업이 된다.
단순히 넣는 게 아니라
맞춰 보고 정리하고 옮기는 일에 가깝다.
이건 어디에 넣지.
이건 안에 들어갈까.
이건 기내 가방으로 옮길까.
캐리어가 작은 퍼즐처럼 느껴진다.
 
가끔은 물건이랑 협상도 한다.
이게 정말 필요한가.
다른 데 넣을 수 있을까.
한 번은 가방에 넣은 호밀빵 때문에
공항 보안 검색에서 괜히 걸리는 건 아닐까 잠깐 고민하기도 했다.

그래도 결국은 다 들어간다.
호기심이 함께 여행하면
캐리어는 생각보다 잘 늘어난다.

필요해서라기보다
호기심이 같이 여행하기 때문이다.

Packing Is a Puzzle Every Time

Trips move forward, even when the suitcase feels full.

 

Every trip begins with the same idea.
Travel packing should be simple.
Just bring the essentials.
Keep the suitcase light.
 
At the beginning,

the suitcase looks perfectly reasonable.
A few clothes.
One pair of shoes.
Toiletries.
Everything fits easily.
 
But trips rarely stay that simple.
Somewhere along the way, things start appearing.
A snack from a supermarket.
A small souvenir.

Something that seemed useful at the time.
None of them were part of the original plan.
Travel packing always looks simple at the start.
But suitcase packing becomes very different by the last day.
 
On the final day,

packing turns into another kind of work.

Not just putting things in.
More like solving.
Where does this go.
What fits inside what.
What becomes carry-on.
The suitcase starts to feel like a small puzzle.
 
Sometimes I even negotiate with objects.
Do I really need this?
Can this go somewhere else?
 
At one point I even wondered if airport security might question

the loaf of rye bread in my bag.

Somehow everything finds a place in the end.
Suitcases are surprisingly flexible when curiosity travels with me.
