이 글은 몇 년 전 플로리다 여행에서 다녀온 장소들을 나누는 시리즈 중 하나예요.

키시미, 플로리다

키시미는 올랜도 바로 남쪽에 위치한 도시로, 디즈니 월드와 유니버설 스튜디오 같은 유명 관광지와 가까워서 잘 알려져 있어요. 조용한 주택가와 예쁜 호숫가 공원, 그리고 다양한 문화의 맛집이 많아요. 마치 작은 마을 같아서 여행지 같으면서도 집처럼 편안한 느낌이 들어요.

 

Kissimmee, Florida

Kissimmee is a city just south of Orlando, known for its proximity to major attractions like Disney World and Universal Studios. The area offers quiet neighborhoods, beautiful lakeside parks, and a wide variety of restaurants featuring different cultures. It feels like a charming small town—a perfect vacation spot where you can also feel right at home.

 

플로리다에서 동부 해안으로 가기 전 며칠 동안 게이트 커뮤니티 안에 있는 집을 렌트했어요. 정말 하나의 커뮤니티 같았는데, 수영장, 운동 시설, 보안, 그리고 공원도 있었어요. 다만 상점은 없어서 밖으로 나가야 해요. 근처에 슈퍼마켓은 있지만, 여기서는 차 없이는 생활이 쉽지 않아요. ^^

 

For our last few days in Florida before heading to the East Coast, we rented a house in a gated community. It truly feels like a close-knit community, with a swimming pool, sports area, security, and a park. There aren’t any stores inside, so you need to go out for shopping. Even though supermarkets are nearby, living here without a car isn’t really possible. ^^

 
이건 우리가 빌린 집 앞에서 보였던 풍경이에요. 매일 아침 커피 잔을 들고 여기 앉아서 경치를 즐겼죠. 거북이도 봤는데, 아쉽게도 휴대폰에 사진이 없네요... 아마 삭제했나 봐요. 아, 그 평화로운 아침들이 정말 그리워요...

 

This was the view in front of our rented house. Every morning, I’d bring my coffee mug and sit here to enjoy it. I even spotted some turtles nearby, but unfortunately, I can’t find any pictures on my phone—I must have deleted them. Ahh, I really miss those peaceful mornings...

 
아침 식사 후와 저녁에 동네를 걸었어요. 정말 좋았어요—조용하고 편안한 느낌. 솔직히 다시 가고 싶네요. ㅠㅠ

 

We walked around the neighborhood after breakfast and again in the evening. It was really nice—peaceful and easy. Honestly, I want to go back. ㅠㅠ

 
플로리다 날씨가 얼마나 변덕스러운지 느껴지죠? ^^ 갑자기 해가 쨍하다가 구름이 끼고 비가 오기도 했어요. 매일 아침 우리를 반겨준 친구들이 있었어요. ^^ 바로 오리들인데, 길에 똥을 많이 싸서 산책로에 떨어져 있었어요. 우리가 지나가도 꿈쩍도 안 하더라고요. 완전 커뮤니티의 일원 같았어요. ❤️

 

You can really see how fickle the weather in Florida is. ^^ One moment it’s bright and sunny, then cloudy, then rain. Every morning, these were our companions. ^^ Those ducks, though—they littered the walking path with droppings! They didn’t even move when we walked by. They’re definitely part of the community. ❤️

 
그리고 여기 연못에서는 수영할 수 없어요. ^^ 대신 수영 전용 풀장이 따로 있어요. 분수에 대해 설명하자면, 플로리다 어디를 가도 작은 물웅덩이에도 분수가 있었어요. 제 동생은 그냥 장식용인 줄 알았고 저도 그랬어요. 그런데 알고 보니 그 분수들은 플로리다처럼 덥고 습한 곳에서 녹조 발생을 막기 위해 설치된 거였어요. 물이 계속 움직여야 녹조가 생기지 않는대요.

 

And yes, you can’t swim in the ponds here. ^^ But there’s a designated swimming pool just for that. About the fountains — we noticed fountains everywhere in Florida, even in small pools of water. My sister thought they were just decorative purposes, and I thought so too. But it turns out those fountains actually help prevent algae from forming, because Florida’s hot and humid climate makes algae easy to grow. Moving water stops algae from building up.

 

밖에 나가서 음식을 사려고 걸어보기도 했는데, 결국 돌아왔어요. 이유는 슈퍼마켓이 너무 멀었거든요. ㅠㅠ
그런데 그 나무들은 정말 커서 스페인 이끼가 커튼처럼 드리워져 있어 너무 예뻤어요.

 

We also tried walking outside to buy some food, but ended up turning back. Why? Because the supermarkets were too far. ㅠㅠ Those trees, though—massive and so pretty with Spanish moss hanging like curtains.

테마파크를 다녀온 후, 여기서 산책하기 정말 좋았어요. 우리가 묵은 곳에서 차로 약 15분 거리에 있었죠. 올드타운은 마치 시간 여행을 하는 듯한 느낌이었어요. 20세기 중반 미국의 작은 마을에 온 것 같았어요. 빈티지 상점과 맛집이 가득했고, 근처에는 작은 미니 테마파크도 있었어요. 주차도 전혀 문제가 없었어요. 주차 공간이 넉넉했거든요!

 

After visiting the theme parks, this was a nice place to walk around. It’s about 15 minutes from where we stayed. Old Town felt like stepping back in time—like visiting classic American small towns from the mid-20th century. It’s full of vintage shops and restaurants. There was also a mini theme park nearby. Parking was easy—there were plenty of spots!

Wonderworks, International Drive

 

플로리다 마지막 날, 비가 와서 하루를 그냥 보내지 않고 실내로 가기로 했어요. 그래서 간 곳이 바로 **원더웍스(WonderWorks)**였어요. 원더웍스는 **인터내셔널 드라이브(International Drive)**에 있는 거꾸로 뒤집힌 건물이라 멀리서도 눈에 확 띄죠! 안에는 5.3 규모 지진 시뮬레이터, 10만 볼트 테슬라 코일, 버블 실험실, 못 침대 등 아이들이 좋아할 만한 체험형 전시가 많아요. 어른인 저희도 거의 아이처럼 놀았답니다. ^^ 나머지 사진들은 아래에 있어요.

 

Final day in Florida, and yes, it was raining. We decided not to waste the day and went indoors—to WonderWorks. WonderWorks is that upside-down building on International Drive that catches your eye right away because, well, it’s upside-down! Inside, there were hands-on exhibits like a 5.3 earthquake simulator, a 100,000-volt Tesla coil, a bubble lab, a bed of nails, and other cool stuff that kids—would love. We're adults but we played like kids. ^^

이렇게 해서 플로리다 여행 시리즈는 마무리했어요! 이번 여행은 저의 소중한 바구니 추억 중 하나가 될 거예요—쨍한 햇살, 비 오는 날, 그리고 가족과 함께한 즐거운 순간들로 가득했거든요. 조용한 동네 산책부터 테마파크에서의 신나는 시간, 올드타운과 원더웍스 같은 독특한 매력까지, 플로리다는 정말 다양한 모습을 보여줬어요. 다시 갈 기회가 생긴다면 잠시 살아보며 매일 그 특별한 열대 분위기를 느껴보고 싶어요.

And that’s all for my Florida travel series! This trip will always be a special part of my basket memory—full of bright sunny days, rainy moments, and plenty of fun times with my family. If I ever get the chance to go back, I’d love to live here for a while and soak up that unique tropical vibe every day.
