[일본 여행] 가가와 코토히라 신사 이야기 | Stone Steps, Shops and Shrine

코토히라 신사 1,368계단, 올라갈 자신 있으세요? 785계단까지만 같이 올라가도 충분히 즐거워요. 가게와 간식, 작은 신사까지 즐기다 보면 피곤한 줄도 몰라요… 내려갈 때까진요ㅎㅎ

며칠 전에 '번아웃 극복과 마인드 리셋 | A Week in Japan'을 올렸어요.
원래는 다카마쓰 공항에서 미요시로 가서 이야 계곡도 보고, 쓰루기산도 오를 계획이었는데…
국제운전면허증을 깜빡해서 전부 취소됐어요ㅠㅠ

 

그래도 완전히 망한 건 아니었어요.

버스랑 기차 타고, 말도 잘 안 통하면서 하루하루 헤매다 보니 그게 또 나름 재미있더라고요.

이상하게도 그런 시행착오들이 제 머리를 딱 깨워줬달까…

덕분에 번아웃이 조금은 나은 기분이었어요. ^^

코토히라는 가가와현에 있는 마을로, 시코쿠에서 가장 큰 신사 중 하나가 있고,

또 사누키 우동으로도 유명해요.
여긴 목적지보다 가는 길이 더 즐거운 곳이에요.

 

코토히라 신사로 가는 길

 

코토히라 역은 참 소박해 보여요.

시간이 멈춘 듯한 그런 느낌이에요.

like a place untouched by time.

귀여운 기념품

 

코토히라 오모테산도. 가게마다 들락날락했어요ㅎㅎ
투덜이 고양이 레오 닮은 귀여운 기념품이랑 우지차 가게가 참 많았어요.

 

Kotohira Omotesando — I was in and out of almost every shop. ^^
Grumpy cat souvenirs (Leo would not approve)

and plenty of Ujicha teas everywhere.

긴료 사케 박물관

 

어쩌다 보니 긴료 사케 박물관까지 왔어요.
여기서 사케도 팔던데… 좀 비싼 거 맞죠? 😅

 

Somehow we ended up at Kinryo Sake Museum.

They also sell sake — looks pricey though, no?

코토히라 온천

 

테라스 카페는 아직 문을 안 열었어요. 커피 너무 마시고 싶었는데ㅠ
맞은편에는 콘피라 온천이랑 무료 족욕탕이 있었어요.
남편한테 해보라고 했더니 귀찮대요. 😪

 

The terrace café was still closed — I really wanted some coffee.
Across from it was Konpira Hot Spring with a free public foot bath.
I told my husband to try it, but he said it’s too bothersome. 😪

점심으로 먹은 사누키 우동

 

가가와에서 첫 우동 — 산도 길에 있는 콘피라 우동집에서 점심 먹었어요.
쫄깃했는데… 사실 저는 우동파가 아니라 맛 차이를 잘 모르겠어요 ㅎㅎ
그래도 785계단 오르기 전에 체력 보충은 필수죠.
(“1368계단”이라고 말하고 싶었는데… 그건 아니었어요 😅)

 

First udon in Kagawa — lunch at Kompira Udon, Sando.
It was chewy, but honestly, I’m not really an udon person, so I can’t tell the difference.
Still, we needed some sustenance before the 785-step climb.
(I wanted to say 1,368 steps, but it wasn’t meant to be 😅)

 

이제 진짜 시작! 괜히 들뜨더라구요.

왜 갑자기 크리스마스 느낌이죠? ㅋㅋ
기념품도 또 샀어요. 손수건이랑 테누구이 타월 몇 개~🤍

 

And now we begin! I felt a bit giddy —

why does it suddenly feel like Christmas? hahaha.
I bought a few more souvenirs: some hankies and tenugui towels.🤍

 

 

올라가는 길에 돌계단이랑 가게들이 더 많았어요.

돌등불들이 너무 아기자기하고 귀엽더라고요ㅎㅎ 사진은 깜빡했어요.

가게 들어갔다 나왔다 하느라 바빴거든요.

남편이 이러다 꼭대기까지 못 간다고 했어요^^

 

There were actually more stone steps going up, lined with little shops.

The stone lanterns looked so whimsicalㅎㅎ

I forgot to take pictures—

I was too busy going in and out of the stores.

My husband said at this rate, we’d never reach the top^^

오래된 참나무

 

돌기둥 사이를 지날 때 그 묘한 고요함 있잖아요. (왼쪽 사진)

그 바로 옆에 하얀 말이 있었는데, (오른쪽 사진)

사진 찍으면 불운하다고 해서 그냥 오래된 나무만 찍었어요.

근데 그게 또...

 

You know that emotional stillness when you walk past the stone pillars? (left image)

There’s actually a white horse next to that ancient tree (right image),

but I read somewhere it’s unlucky to take a photo of it—

so I just took one of the tree instead.

And somehow… that felt right 🤍

 

코토히라 신사

 

  몇 계단을 올랐는지 모르겠어요.

근데 이제 거의 다 온 것처럼 보이죠?

드디어 본전이 코앞~😍

 

I have no idea how many steps we’ve climbed,

but it really looks like we’re almost there —

the main shrine is just ahead~

소원을 담

 

이 근처에 잠깐 쉴 수 있는 곳이 있어요.

동전을 던져서 소원이 담긴 채로 물에 뜨면 이루어진다고 하더라구요.

제 생각엔 1엔짜리는 무조건 뜰 듯^^

하지만 그게 없어서 그냥 10엔 던지고 가라앉는 거 구경했어요...ㅎㅎ

 

Somewhere around here, there’s a spot to rest.

Apparently, if your coin floats with your wish, it’ll come true.

Honestly, I think a 1 yen coin will definitely float^^

but I didn’t have one, so I just watched my 10 yen sink insteadㅎㅎ

 

코토히라 본궁과 마지막 계단

 

신기하게도 전혀 안 피곤했어요.

남편은 휴게소에 앉혀두고 혼자 위로 올라갔죠.

위쪽 분위기는 그냥 평온 그 자체였어요 —

사찰 특유의 고요함, 신성한 평화 같은 느낌이랄까.

 

Surprisingly, I didn’t feel tired at all.

I left my husband resting at the bench and went up alone.

The vibe up there was pure calm —

that kind of temple calm, sacred calm.

여기 올라오니까 시간이 느리게 흐르는 느낌이었어요.

잠시 그냥 가만히 앉아 있었죠.

 

It felt like time stood still.

I just sat still for awhile.

그러다 남편이 올라와서 사진 몇 장 더 찍더니 다시 아래로 내려갔어요.

저는 꼭대기로 가는 길을 찾고 있었는데,

남편은 “여기가 꼭대기야”라고 단호하게 말하더라고요.

속으로는 ‘아닌 것 같은데…’ 싶었지만 그냥 따라 내려갔죠.

내려가면서 생각났어요 — 아 맞다, 내려갈 때도 1368계단이지…😅

 

Then my husband came up, took a few more pictures, and went back down.

I was looking for the path to the very top, but he insisted, “This is the top.”

I kind of doubted it, but I followed anyway.

On the way down, it hit me — right, another 1,368 steps to go… 😅

  여기서 내려다본 마을은 참 평화로웠어요.

이제 코토히라 파크 호텔로 향합니다.

 

The town looked so peaceful from up here.

Now heading to Kotohira Park Hotel for the night.

이 글을 편집하면서 신사 이름을 다시 확인했는데…

세상에, 거기가 끝이 아니었어요!

안쪽 신사(오쿠노인)까지는 안 올라갔다는 사실😭😭😭

 

남편은 거기가 꼭대기라고 해서 믿었는데, 알고 보니 그건 본궁이었어요.

안쪽 신사까지는 583계단이 더 있다네요!

 

길도 살짝 숨어 있어서,

아는 사람만 아는 그런 느낌… 울음
어쩐지 왜 그렇게 안 힘들었나 했죠 ㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠ

 

그래도 본궁만으로도 충분히 멋졌어요.

게다가 785계단도 기념품 가게에 정신 팔리지 않았으면 꽤 힘들었을지도^^

 

So here I was editing this post,

and while double-checking the name of the main shrine,

I found out — it wasn’t the top!

 

I didn’t climb the inner shrine 😭😭😭

My husband said it was the top, but that was only the main shrine (Hongu).

There were 583 more steps to the inner shrine (Okunoin)!

 

The path was kind of hidden — one of those “if you know, you know” things. cries
No wonder I thought it wasn’t that hard… ㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠ

 

Oh well, the main shrine was already beautiful enough.

And honestly, 785 steps would’ve been tough if

I hadn’t been distracted by all those souvenir shops^^
